ENGLISH fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett says he was so excited after being knighted by the Queen that he decided to make his own sword to equip himself for his new status.

It was not enough, however, simply to find some metal and get a blacksmith to bash it into shape.

Pratchett, believing the sword would not truly be his own unless it was made from metal he had produced, found a field with deposits of iron ore near his home in Wiltshire, west of London.

He gathered the deposits and smelted the iron ore himself.

The author, 62, who has sold about 65 million copies of his books, which include the Discworld series, said: "Most of my life I've been producing stuff which is intangible and so it's amazing the achievement you feel when you have made something which is really real."

With help from his friend Jake Keen — an expert on ancient metal-making techniques — the author dug up 81kg of ore and smelted it in the grounds of his house, using a makeshift kiln built from clay and hay and fuelled with damp sheep manure.

Pratchett, who has Alzheimer's disease, also said he had throw

you’ve got to chuck that stuff in whether you believe in it or not".

After days of hammering the metal into bars, he took it to a blacksmith, whom he helped to shape it into a blade, which was finished with silverwork.

Pratchett has stored the sword, which he completed last year, in a secret location, apparently concerned about the authorities taking an interest in it.

He said: "It annoys me that knights aren’t allowed to carry their swords. That would be knife crime."

More good news, plus some details about the autographed DVDs.

Bridget Regan is stepping in to help with the Season 2 DVD fundraising efforts by autographing some DVDs. Big 'thank you' to Bridget and her wonderful agency for supporting our cause!

Both Craig and Bridget will also sign the big poster ad we used at the Burbank bus shelter last July (photo), and that our Karen, from sos.com managed to retrieve.

Both Craig's and Bridget's autographed DVDs will be auctioned. We will also auction the autographed poster ad, and possibly other items. You will not be able "to purchase" the DVDs by donating a certain amount of money like we arranged with Terry Goodkind in the past as we may not have hundreds of DVDs.

Once the sos.com team has the signed items on hand, we will publish a catalog with the date & time the items will be up on eBay. We'll likely auction 3 items every week.

We will also have a couple of autographed DVDs set aside for a sweepstakes to allow everyone to participate and have equal chance to own one of these precious items. There will be no donation required to enter the sweepstakes. Just keep in mind that with about 3,000 members on this forum, and 18,000 in one of the Facebook communities, if each of us donates $1, we can buy a big billboard in proximity of a major freeway in Burbank to run for at least 5 months. Just an example of what we could do.

DVD Gives Fans Chance to Save Legend of the Seeker

I just wouldn’t have guessed it, but Legend of the Seeker has a huge amount of fans. Either that, or a small amount of very vocal ones. In any case, the show (which airs only in syndication) is still gathering fans, despite the fact that it was cancelled after its second season earlier this year. Outrage could be heard across the internet as the aforementioned fans headed up “Save Our Seeker” campaigns in order to revive the series based on Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth novels. While there has been no sign of progress on this front, fans of the fantasy series have perhaps their best chance of redemption coming up next Tuesday, when the second season hits DVD. It’s not necessarily a common practice, but there have been several cancelled shows to have been revived by DVD sales (the now-beloved Family Guy springs to mind). If The Legend of the Seeker is going to make a triumphant return to viewers’ screens, it’s going to need massive DVD sales to show how much fan support is really behind the series. The show, which stars Craig Horner and Bruce Spence, centers on a good versus evil battle after “a tear in the veil separating the world of the living from the underworld unleashes the most powerful forces the world has ever known.” While that sounds like a typical fantasy to an outsider, fans of the series are sure to argue that the series is anything but typical. The season two set will feature five discs with all twenty-two episodes of the season, as well as “never-before-seen bonus features available only on DVD.” It retails for $31.99. Legend of the Seeker fans press ahead with campaign to save show

Seattle, WA – Fans of Legend of the Seeker move into new phase of campaign to save show by building audience at conventions and through college activities.

Fans of Legend of the Seeker have launched a multi-pronged effort to build visibility and audience for their show, despite the fact that Legend of the Seeker has been cancelled. Hopes are to help producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert find a new distribution channel and/or support for a third season or possibly one or more movies. Recent activities including raising $3000.00 for an advertisement in The Hollywood Reporter, which ran the week of August 20. Dedicated fan podcast group The Seeker Cast are organizing a panel, con suite party, and live podcast for Labor Day Weekend’s Dragon*Con in Atlanta.

To help promote the fan community’s activities and assist in building audience for the show, Project LOTS More is organizing free publicity and blogosphere coverage of the ongoing fan activities. Project LOTS More supplements Legend of the Seeker fan groups’ messages with periodic “news blasts” to media and bloggers.

SaveOurSeeker.com, one of the leading fan Websites for Legend of the Seeker, has been coordinating the print ad campaign, raising money for advertisements in trade publications such as Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, as well as a bus stop near ABC Studios’ Burbank office. Affectionately known as SOS, the Website has also made poster tear sheets, other printed materials, and iTunes gift cards available to fans organizing Seeker Visibility Events at major conventions like Comic Con 2010 and Dragon*Con.

TheSeekerCast.com provides a frequent downloadable podcast for Legend of the Seeker fans. Podcast staff member Kevin Bachelder has been helping organize fan activities for Dragon*Con, which is one of the world’s largest science fiction conventions. Bachelder was able to get one of the fan programming tracks to set aside time for a Legend of the Seeker panel. Bachelder’s group is also organizing a Con Suite party, a photo meetup, and other activities at the convention. Dragon*Con is held over the Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta.

HerBlueEyes.com announced a Dragon*Con photo contest. A second season DvD set will be awarded for the best picture of Kahlan Amnell coming out of Dragon*Con.

Forums.LegendoftheSeeker.com serves as a major hub for fans organizing events and sharing new ideas. Many news stories are reported there as well. The Dragon*Con and advertising campaigns were organized by members of this forum community.

Legend of the Seeker was produced by Pacific Renaissance Pictures, the studio operated by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert in New Zealand. ABC Studios owned the syndicated distribution rights. Legend of the Seeker is based on the Terry Goodkind Sword of Truth novels. Save Our Seeker and Save The Seeker are fan-created campaign slogans. "Legend of the Seeker" is a fantasy TV show, based on author Terry Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" book series. Produced by Disney-ABC, the show currently airs in syndication. With little to no promotion, and an erratic airing schedule, the show has averaged 2.5 million viewers weekly, plus boasts a rapidly growing international fanbase. Though no official statement has been made, as of April 26th, Ausiello reported that the show would be cancelled, since Tribune/WGN America had not purchased distribution for season 3.

The "Save Our Seeker" campaign aims to promote the show by demonstrating the unity and strength of its fanbase. After its first project, two ads on Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the SOS.com Project Group purchased over 250 DVDs of "Legend of the Seeker" Season 1 to donate to public libraries.

With the added motivation brought on by an endorsement from Terry Goodkind, the group has managed and continues to manage several projects in an effort to make a Season 3 for "Legend of the Seeker" a reality.

It’s been a while since Xena had a match on the ‘Pile so I figured it was time to trot out the old girl with her partner, Gabrielle to go up against Kahlan Amnell and Cara from the Legend of the Seeker/Sword of Truth franchise.

Here’s hoping that the match can have some intelligent discussion and not just flame wars to help justify a victory for Team Xena. While Xena has a chance against either Kahlan or Cara, Gabrielle would absolutely get destroyed by either one. So, for this battle all four are fighting each other with Cara starting against Gabrielle and Xena attacking Kahlan.

Rand has a power forged sword (unbreakable) and no power enhancing items. Richard has the Sword of Truth.

Brooke’s favourite theatre credits include The Cherry Orchard at the Court Theatre, Shakespeare’s The Tempest with the Peripeteia players at Hawke Sea Scout Hall in Cox’s Bay (on the sea!) and Mr Marmalade at Bats Theatre for which she was awarded the 2009 Chapman Tripp Award for Most Promising Female Newcomer.

Screen work includes Go Girls, Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Legend of the Seeker, Outrageous Fortune and the upcoming feature films Predicament and Ice.

Brooke Williams is well known for her portrayal of Jennsen in Legend of the Seeker.In the Television Show.
Jennsen Rahl is the full sister of Richard Rahl and the half sister of Darken Rahl. She and Richard have the same mother, but all three share the same father, Panis Rahl.
She is first introduced in season one of Legend of the Seeker, because she is ‘pristinely ungifted,’ meaning that magic has no power over her. Darken Rahl sends Denna, one of his followers, to get Jennsen so that she can be used to retrieve the third Box of Orden, a magical artifact that will give him great power. The tables are turned when Denna and Jennsen are intercepted by Richard, the show ending with Jennsen’s daring journey into Darken Rahl’s inner sanctum to steal the Boxes of Orden already in his possession. Jennsen later appears in two more episodes where her relationships with her brothers are further explored. In “Fever” in particular, Ms. Williams delivers a powerful performance.

This auction is for Kahlan's iconic SEASON 2 TRAVEL/ACTION Costume worn by lead actress Bridget Regan in the television series, Legend of the Seeker. The design of this costume references the lines of the Confessor Costume as well as the Season 1 Travel Costume. It was introduced in Ep 208. The corset features the same lines and detail as the season 1 corset but with modified construction. A clear difference can be seen in re-shaped extended side panels which replaced the inserted hip panel of the season 1 corset. This latest version of the corset also features stretch leather back side panels. The skirt with 2 side front splits was introduced with the Season 2 travel costume and features leather applique detail which references the Season 1 travel costume. The belt is also modified. The thigh high boots were also introduced with this costume.

This corset, skirt and boots became the new base for the White Confessor Costume from after Ep208.

From a farming family in North Canterbury, New Zealand, Owen was always interested in art and is a painter and printmaker. He spent some time in Japan, working at ski resorts and sport shops. Then he moved on to London and did some travelling before returning to New Zealand, having decided to become an actor. Owen began with some amateur drama productions in Christchurch, then moved to Auckland, where he enrolled in Raymond Hawthorne’s renowned drama classes. Hawthorne encouraged him to attend the Performing Arts School at Unitec, and in 1998, Owen graduated from the school with a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts.
